JULIA LOCKHART
Professional Bassoonist & Professor
Julia Lockhart is currently principal bassoon for the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra. She is a native of Calgary, where she began playing in the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra as a substitute musician at age sixteen. Her teachers have included Bernard Garfield, Nadina Mackie Jackson, Jesse Read, Frank Morelli and Michael Hope.
She is a graduate of the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia, where she earned a Bachelor of Music in bassoon and a Diploma in harpsichord. Her Master’s degree was completed at Yale and UBC.
Julia is a dedicated bassoon instructor, and was recently appointed as an Adjunct Professor of bassoon at UBC. She has given guest master classes at the University of Toronto, Mount Royal University, Wilfrid Laurier University, and the Pacific Region International Summer Music Academy on the Sunshine Coast.
She was a founding member of the Harlequin Bassoon Quartet and has performed two tours of throughout Western Canada with the trio. She has also created and performed arrangements for solo bassoon with piano, as well as classical guitar & bassoon quartets.
