CRISTIAN COLIVER

Professional Bassoonist & Bassoon Instructor

Begins at the age of 10 he entered the Center for Children's Orchestra in Caracas, and began his studies at the age of 11 years with the Professors Hector Barrios, Omar Ascanio, Jesus Acosta, Geronis Bravo, Filiberto Nuñez, Ruben Osher and Leonardo Dean in the Conservatory of Music Simon Bolivar of Venezuela.

From a young age he joined the Simón Bolívar Youth Orchestra, where he has the opportunity to play under the direction of Claudio Abbado at the Lucerne Festival, Sir Simon Rattle at Carnegie Hall in New York, Lorin Maazel, Esa Pekka Salonen, Gustavo Dudamel, Krzysztof Penderecki, Helmunth Rilling, Daniel Barenboim, Matthias Pintscher, Zubin Mehta, Peter Eotvos, Heinz Holliger, Ricardo Chailly, Nikolaus Harnoncourt, Sir Goege Benjamin and many others, playing in the world's most prestigious halls such as Philharmonie Berlin, and places like London, New York, Chicago, Boston, Mexico, Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia, Helsinki, Beijing, Tokyo, Seoul and many others.

He has performed as soloist in the principal bassoon in Simon Bolivar Youth Orchestra of Venezuela (2005-2009), Teresa Carreño Youth Orchestra (2004-07/ 2014-2016), Orchestra of the Conservatory of Music of Aragon (2009-13) and Venezuela Symphony Orchestra (2014/16).

He has performed with the Simon Bolivar Symphony Orchestra with soloists such as Martha Argerich, Emanuel Ax, Helene Grimaud, Joshua Bell, Itzhak Perlman, Yo-Yo Ma, Natalia Gutman, Edicson Ruiz, Ray Chen, Heinz Holliger, Patricia Kopatchinskaja, Daniel Barenboim, Albrecht Mayer among others. During the years 2004-08 participates in courses with the Berlin Philharmonic Wind Quintet and giving important lessons by Henning Trog (former bassoon in Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra).

Has presented master classes with teachers, Stefano Canuti, Sergio Azzolini, Matthias Racz, Henning Trog, Laurent Lefevre, Chiara Santi, Guilhaume Santana, Hans Agreda, David Petersen, George Sakakeeny, Stefan Schweigert, Daniele Damiano, Lorelei Dowling, Rodion Tolmachev, Whitney Crockett, Pierre Martens.

In 2007 he won first place in the Young Soloists of Venezuela, in 2010 the first in the scholarship contest Ibercaja in Zaragoza-Spain and 2012 is Semifinalist in Bassoon Competition Michal Spisak in Katowice-Poland.

In 2009 he was a student of Professor Stefano Canuti at the Conservatory of Music of Aragon in Zaragoza in Spain and currently continues his studies with Professor Salvador Sanchis in bassoon and contrabassoon.

He is currently a member since the year 2016 in Jalisco Philharmonic Orchestra and he is an Associate Principal bassoon and Principal Contrabassoon, member of Lucerne Festival Academy (2017 - 2018 - 2019 - 2020), current member of The Orchestra of the Americas, bassoon player in the Iberoamérica Woodwind Quintet and Solo Principal Bassoon in Orquesta Solistas de América.
